Hot-cold contrast therapy at Cryomend, Toronto is a powerful combination of infrared sauna and cold plunge treatments. Many will be familiar with the detoxifying benefits of using a sauna, but fewer know about how combining it with cold plunge therapy can greatly amplify the benefits.

Contrast therapies involve cycling through hot and cold environments in order to promote vasoconstriction and vasodilation. The contrast creates a ‘pump’ effect which helps to flush out toxins while promoting the flow of fresh oxygen and nutrient-rich blood throughout your body.

It has been scientifically proven to be beneficial for pain relief, muscle recovery, stress reduction, and overall mental wellbeing.

What to Expect

Before Your Session

Private Room:

Upon arrival, one of our staff members will escort you to your own private contrast therapy room, complete with a sauna and cold plunge.

Preparation:

We will guide you through the entire process and address any questions or concerns you may have.

Towels Provided:

Towels will be provided for your comfort and convenience.

During Your Session

Infrared Sauna:

You will start with about 15-20min in the IR Sauna to promote sweat and detoxification. While operating at temperatures lower than a traditional sauna – typically around 55°C – the infrared heat penetrates deep into the skin.

Cold Plunge:

After coming out of the sauna, you will move into a private cold plunge at around 8°C for 2-3 minutes. This rapid change in temperature helps to stimulate blood circulation, reduce inflammation, and invigorate your body.

Repeat:

You can then repeat the steps according to how you feel. Remember not to push yourself too hard, and listen to your body’s signals.

After Your Session

Concluding Your Session:

We recommend concluding your therapy session with a cold plunge, which allows your body to gradually return to its natural temperature.

Hydration:

It’s recommended to drink plenty of water both before, during, and after your session to make up for water loss in the sauna.

Results:

While individual experiences may vary, you may feel a sense of increased energy, reduced pain, and improved mood immediately following your session.
